The DHS has nine standalone components. They are Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Secret Service (USSS), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

It does not include all offices and entities. It highlights the organizational relationship of the operational component under the DHS. Each operational component reports the Deputy Secretary. Established: 1803 as the "first legislative act of federal disaster relief in U.S. history" (Congressional Act of 1803), in 1979 was officially created as FEMA (Executive Order 12127), and in 2003 became part of DHS (Homeland Security Act of 2002).

Established: 1970 as the Consolidated Federal Law Enforcement Training Center under the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury Order No. 217), in 1975 as FLETC, and in 2003 transferred under DHS (Homeland Security Act of 2002).
Mission: "To train and support the training of federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers and international partners that are responsible for enforcing laws, treaties, and regulations within the United States and abroad."

Established: 1790 as the Revenue Cutter Service under the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Tariff Act of 1790), established as USCG in 1915 (14 U.S.C. 1), then in 1967 under the U.S. Department of Transportation (Public Law 89-670), and in 2003 under DHS (Public Law 107-296)
Purpose: "Enforce the law and stop terrorists, criminals, and drug dealers from entering the country from the nation’s coasts."
Operation: Nearly 55,000 military members and civilian employees
