There are eight offices of minority health within HHS. The two main offices are the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) and HHS Office of Minority Health (HHS OMH). Additionally, there are six offices of minority health within the following HHS agencies: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Office of Minority Health (CDC OMH), Food and Drug Administration Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (FDA OMHHE), Health Resources and Services Administration Office of Health Equity (HRSA OHE), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). IHS is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives and is the principle federal health care provider and health advocate for Indigenous peoples.^ IHS began operations on July 1, 1955, after the transfer of American Indian health services from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to the Public Health Service, the predecessor agency to the HHS.^^
