Publications for Children: Genre/Form Search

A guide to using the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications to find and access government publications for children.

Introduction to Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT)

In library catalog records, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) are assigned to describe what a resource is about. Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT), on the other hand, are headings that describe what a resource is.

LCGFT headings have recently been created for activity books and coloring books. A resource may qualify for one of these headings even if it does not have "Activity Book" or "Coloring Book" in its title.

Because these LCGFTs are fairly new, not all eligible records in the CGP contain these headings.

Therefore, the technique provided below searches the title and notes fields as well as the LCGFT fields in catalog records. In the search string, WRD represents a keyword and WSU represents the LCGFT.
