Suggested tasks, tips, training, and other resources for busy depository coordinators.

FDLP Tip of the Month

The FDLP Academy Training Repository is a great way to learn about government information resources and to manage your depository operation. Watch recorded training sessions or share them with a colleague.

Reference Resource of the Month

The National Center for Education Statistics is "the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education." The Annual Reports section of the site brings together data from various surveys.

Task of the Month

Tangible Selection Time

Remember to check your item selection profile and take a quick look at the Modified List of Classes to see what's available. If you want to add any tangible format publications to the ones you get through the FDLP, you need to do it by late September.  (GPO runs on the Federal fiscal year, October 1 - September 31.)

Use DSIMS to add item numbers to your selection profile.

Tangible publications in the List of Classes will be marked as P, MF, CD/DVD, or some combination of those like P/EL, P/MF, or MF/EL.

Agency of the Month

Department of Education    logo for Education department

It's back to school month, the agency of the month had to be the Department of Education!

From the U.S. Government Manual: "The Department of Education ensures equal access to education; promotes educational excellence; and administers, coordinates, and makes policy for most Federal assistance to education with the aim of raising levels of student achievement and readiness for the global future."

You might not know that the agency includes an Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education.  The Federal Student Aid office is also within the Department of Education. The National Library of Education is a depository library and manages the Education Resources Information Center (or ERIC).
