Task of the Month

October is the month for the annual Federal Depository Library Conference!  This 3-day event takes place in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The conference is the largest annual gathering devoted to U.S. Government information librarianship in the country, and is a wonderfult opportunity for networking and continuing learning.

It is very helpful to attend this conference in person if you possibly can, although GPO also broadcasts as many of the sessions as possible so that people can remotely attend too.

You can view past recordings and transcripts and see slides on FDLP.gov.

Agency of the Month

The agency's mission statement:

"To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans."

The Department of Justice dates to 1870, along with the Office of the Solicitor General. See all the current units on the Organization, Mission and Functions Manual and Agencies webpages.

Also of interest to depository libraries is the DOJ's Publications webpage and the DOJ Library's digitized legislative histories of significant laws.
