Task of the Month

Do a little outreach

Do your patrons know that your library is in the FDLP?  Do the other staff at the library know?  Does everyone understand what it means?

This is a good month to do a little outreach and promotion of the FDLP for your users, whoever they may be. Some things to try might include:

Agency of the Month

Department of Labor    image of Department of Labor seal

The Department of Labor's mission: "To foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights."

The legislation establishing the department was signed March 4, 1913. This agency had the first woman ever to serve in the Cabinet: Frances Perkins, appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933.

The agency's organizational chart shows where important bureaus such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Women's Bureau, and Wage and Hour Division fit in.
